NEW DELHI:
Indian juniors went down 0-3 to Japan in the play-off for the 13th place at the World Group Junior under-14 boys8217; tennis championship at Nagoya today.

P Vishal lost the opening singles of the rubber 3-6, 1-6 to Taichi Wada. In the second, Anand Kumar was defeated 2-6, 0-6 by Go Soeda as Japan took a 2-0 unbeatable lead.

In the doubles, Vishal and Parantap Chaturvedi lost to Japanese duo of Soeda and Sho Yonezawa 4-6, 4-6.

Volleyball GP
MUMBAI:
World number one and two-time Olympic champions Cuba, along with Russia, Korea and Italy, will take part in the Indian Oil Servo Cup World Grand Prix Women8217;s League Volleyball Tournament at Chennai from Sept 4.The Russian team is ranked second in the world while Korea and Italy are ranked fourth and ninth respectively.The Indian Oil Servo Cup is the fifth leg of the World Grand Prix this season where the total circuit prize money would be 1.5 million.

HC refuses stay
NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court yesterday issued show cause notice to the Ministry of Human Resource Development on a petition filed by long distance runner Sunita Godara seeking explanation for her non-inclusion in the list of Arjuna Award winners but refused to stay the prestigious awards function.

Justice Anil Dev Singh refused Sunita8217;s plea for staying the function keeping in view the fact that less than 48 hours were left for felicitation of sportspersons with Arjuna Awards for the year 1997.
