Manoj grabs gold medal
NEW DELHI:
Manoj Kumar did India proud by winning a silver medal in the 52kg category event at the World Free Style Junior upto 20 years Wrestling Championship which concluded in Primm, Naveda USA yesterday.

According to information received here today, Sanjay Kumar finished fourth in the 56-kg category. Other Indian grapplers ended between fifth to eighth places.

A 10-member India team represented the country in the Championship in which 33 nations took part.

Ali second
HONG KONG:
Indian professional Firoz Ali is placed second in the 1988 Omega Tour Order of Merit released here today.

The Order of Merit is headed by Ed Fryatt of England with a total earning of 87,097 from three events.

Firoz Ali who has also played in three Championships on this tour has earned 51,695 so far.

Ram Kumar tops
HYDERABAD:
Havaldar Ram Kumar of Corps of Engineers Sailing Club CESC, Pune, emerged as surprise winner in the second race of the Laser StandardRig event in the BPL International Laser Open championships at Hussain Sagar Lake here today.

Kumar was at the third position at the end of the race but was declared winner after the top contenders, R Mahesh and Nitin Mongia, both of Mumbai8217;s Naval Sailing Club NSC, were disqualified due to collisions on the loop and star board tag.

Judokas shine
NEW DELHI:
India finished fourth in the Sixth International judo tournament in Vietnam as the Indian judokas won 10 medals including a gold and silver at the Ho Chi Minh city recently.

Kamla Rawat clinched gold in the under 48 kg class while Yashpal Solanki under-81 kg won silver to help India put up a fine show at this international A grade judo tournament.

Camp postponed
CALCUTTA:
The national football camp has been postponed once again, this time indefinitely. Scheduled to be held at Bangalore from August 10, the camp became a non-starter due to the non-availability of accommodation for the campers.

However, the real reason forthe postponement might well be that the team is yet to be cleared for the Bangkok Asian Games.

Riders for Russia
NEW DELHI:
Indian riders will be provided rigorous training in Russia, Ireland and Germany and at home to mount a medal strong challenge in the December Bangkok Asian Games.

The procedure for short listing of horses and riders were being done and camps for Asiad probables at Bareilly, Meerut and Delhi would be intensified, the Equestrian Federation of India said in a release today.
