BANGALORE: Fourth seed Anant Sitaram of Andhra Pradesh and qualifier Preeti Rao of Tamil Nadu today shocked better rated players to clinch the honours in the Under-16 category in the South Zone Adidas tennis circuit here.

Fifteen year old 11th standard student from Hyderabad Public School, Anant Sitaram, first leg winner in Hyderabad, accounted for third seed Siddarth Sudhakar of Karnataka 6-3, 6-2 in the 56 minutes match.

Qualifier Preeti Rao stunned top seed T Yamini 8212; her first ever win in competitions over her 8212; 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in 85 minutes.

OTHER RESULTS

Boys u-16: Anant Sitaram AP bt Siddarth Sudhakar Kar 6-3, 6-2. U-12: M Vinod TN bt Karthik Raju Kar 6-3, 7-5.

Girls u-16: Preeti Rao TN bt T Yamini TN 5-7, 6-2. 6-3.

Players clash

BANGALORE: Four people were injured and a few vehicles damaged following a clash between two cricket teams in Chamarajpet, here on Sunday.

Police said the trouble started when a cork ballhit a player of another team, leading to the clash. The players resorted to stone throwing, in which a car, a scooter and two autorickshaws were damaged, police added.

Double for MRF

NASHIK: N Leelakrishnan and his navigator MK Chander of MRF were declared overall first in group A modified cars at the Castrol Challenge Rally 1998. Zubin Patel and his navigator KE Suresh Kumar, also of Team MRF were placed first in the two-wheeler category.
