It took the Jammu and Kashmir Police only a few hours to track down a few recruits of Jaish-e-Mohammad responsible for Friday8217;s terror wave.
IG Rajindra said they received the first tip off about a new Jaish module responsible for the series of grenade blasts at around 5.30 pm, within hours of the first attacks at noon. 8216;8216;We started arresting people while two more grenade attacks took place. These attacks had been planned at Ajas in Bandipore. We have already captured nine of their men and recovered 38 grenades,8217;8217; he said.
Rajindra said that the module had two groups8212;one in Srinagar city while the other was at Ajas. 8216;8216;We picked up Waseem and his brother Sameer. They are teenagers and are from Soura. Waseem8217;s elder brother and father are in detention since December when they were arrested after Harkat8217;s Pakistani commander Saifullah was killed at their home,8217;8217; he said. 8216;8216;Waseem too had been arrested, but was bailed out for being a minor.8217;8217;
8216;8216;The grenades had been brought to Srinagar city in a mini bus from Ajas by Yousuf alias Mashooq 22. He handed over the grenades to Waseem and another Jaish operator 8212; Arif Shah of Kawdara. They distributed the grenades and planned the attacks,8217;8217; he said.
He said Arif Shah too has a militant background and his brother is in jail for Lashkar links. Rajindra said that during interrogations, the police got to know that Yousuf alias Mashooq was heading back to Ajas along with some more ammunition in the mini bus. 8216;8216;We informed 13 RR, gave them the vehicle number,8217;8217; he said. 8216;8216;Then we arrested the mastermind Imtiyaz in Ajas. A tailor, he has been involved with Jaish for long.8217;8217;
Police said though the cases of the seven grenade attacks have all been solved, they are still on a look out for similar modules. 8216;8216;This is a Jaish group that has been absconding. It8217;s led by Pervez, a militant commander in Bandipore, and Umar. They are still at large,8217;8217; he said.
