The highest number of five cases about defacement of public properties were reported from the areas falling under the Parvati Legislative Assembly constituency, according to the officials from the district collectorate. Four cases of defacing public property were reported from the areas falling under Bhor, Shirur, Bhavani Peth and Shivajinagar assembly constituencies each.

The remaining cases of defacing public property took place in Pune Cantonment, Maval and Khed Alandi assembly constituencies, the district collectorate officials said.

The collectorate staff has also launched a drive to remove the flags, banners and posters put up by various political parties at public places after receiving directives from the Election Commission (EC). It removed 1,865 banners, 2,855 posters and 1,289 flags put up at various political parties at public places during the drive, the officials said.

DCP shifted
In a swift move the deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Vijay Chavan was transferred on Saturday to Ahmednagar as additional superintendent of police with immediate effect after the Election Commission issued directives to the effect.

The reasons for which Chavan was transferrd could not be ascertained till late in the night. DCP Chavan himself was stated to be out of town. Confirming that Chavan had been transferred the Police Commissioner K K Kashyap said, “Details about the transfer are only available with the Election Commission.”
