
GJU V-C to present awards
Guru Jambeshwar University Vice-Chancellor Dharmvir will present awards to teachers who volunteered to particpate in the 1998 Physics Olympiad on September 26 at Hotel G.K. International. More than 5,000 students competed in the Olympiad conducted by The Educationist in December last.
Ru-ba-ru
Member of Parliament Kartar Singh Duggal will participate in a ru-ba-ru programme on September 26 at 5 p.m. at the Sector 16 Punjab Kala Bhavan. Punjab Sahit Akademi president Dalip Kaur Tiwana will preside. Earlier in the day, Duggal and Punjab Arts Council members will discuss Duggal8217;s plans to set up cultural bhavans at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala. The Arts Council wants financial aid for its proposed cultural complex-cum-auditorium.
LIC dharna
The members of the LIC Class I Officers8217; Association today held a dharna before the Divisional Office Building Sector 17 in protest against the delay in settling the charter of demands and wage rise by the LIC establishment. According to a spokesperson both central government and public sector undertakings have increased the wages but LIC has failed to remove bitterness among its employees.
A computer typing competition in Hindi was held for staff members of State Bank of India in which members typed in Hindi by using bilingual software quot;Shabratnaquot;. Neeraj, H.C.Sharma, R.S.Saluja and Virendra Malik stood first, second, third and fourth respectively.
