Unauthorised printers to be raided
The Punjab School Education Board will raid the premises of the printers, publishers and booksellers who are printing and selling books without the authorisation and approval of the Board, a spokesman said in a press release issued today. In certain cases it was found that the title page of the textbooks mentioned approval letters whose dates had expired. In others, the approval letters were not even issued by the board.

Exam postponed
The Punjab University B.Com III paper, scheduled to be held on May 12, has been postponed to May 26 as the examination date clashes with that of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Sodhi Ram, Controller of Examination, PU, said that the time and centre of examination will remain the same.

UT staff protest
UT Electricity Department staff gathered outside the Manimajra substation today to protest lack of drinking water and the administration8217;s indifference to various long-pending union demands. The demands include releasing 1997-98 and 1998-99 bonus, releasing dearness allowance at the rate of 10 per cent with effect from January 1, 1999, granting PSEB scales to left-out categories, releasing time-bound promotion scale, paying several allowances and recalling UT cadre employees on deputation to the Punjab State Electricity Board. They demanded that additional posts be created to cope with increased work load and asked that vacant UT posts be filled from among the UT cadre staff only.
