
Resignation of Vajpayee govt demanded
The resignation of the Central Government has been demanded by Kalka MLA Chander Mohan. In a press statement issued here, he said that the current poll results should be considered as referendum from the general public.
Himlok office bearers meet
General body meeting of Himlok, a social welfare organisation, was held here in Gandhi Smarak Bhawan yesterday. Sarla Sharma, former Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president, was the chief guest on the occasion. She praised the people of HP for their diligence and honesty. Jaswant Kumar, president of the executive body of the organisation, laid stress on the non-political character of this organisation.
Lala Achint Ram remembered
The Servants of People8217;s Society organised a function in the memory of late Lala Achint Ram on the occasion of his 37th death anniversary. The function, which was held at Lajpat Rai Bhawan today, started with a hawan in the morning, followed by a prayer meeting which was attended by people from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Onkar Chand, secretary of the society, talked about the life and achievements on the great freedom fighter. Children from the Institute for Care of the Blind gave soulful renderings of hymns from the Holy scriptures.
Banking awareness programme held
Special emphasis was laid on promoting self-help groups to encourage the habit of thrift and banking culture during the banking awareness programme organised by Canara Bank on November 26. The target group were the women of Nadda Sahib. During the programme, women were also asked to take up various income generating activities to be able to provide financial support to their families.
51st anniversary of Fall of Mirpur
The 51st anniversary of the Fall of Mirpur8217; now in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was observed by the Mirpur Welfare Association today. A statement issued here said the miseries suffered by the Mirpuris during the Partition were highlighted. It was also stated that some of the Mirpuris have still not been compensated under the Displaced Persons Act. Brig Prem Kumar, the oldest Mirpuri in the City, presided over the meet.
UP resident held; 3 theft cases solved
The Panchkula Police today claimed to have solved three cases of theft with the arrest of an Uttar Pradesh resident here. They have also claimed the recovery of Rs 9,600 from the accused. According to Superintendent of Police Alok Mittal, the police also recovered two stolen television sets, besides the same number of cycles from accused Mohan.
Five LPG cylinders stolen
In a complaint lodged with police post Manimajra, Narinder Gupta, a resident of 170, NAC, Mani Majra, stated that five LPG cylinders were stolen from his residence on November 27. A case has been registered.
224 cases heard
The local unit of Rashtriya Janata Dal organised a Khula Darbar 8212; Apke Dwar in Maloya Colony. During the darbar, 224 cases regarding ration cards, voter8217;s I-cards and house allotment came in for consideration. The problem of maintenance and upgrading of the primary school of Maloya was particularly highlighted. V S Malik, president of RJD, assured decision in this case by December 10.
