Fixing took place: Imran

LONDON: Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan admitted that fixing could have taken place in matches involving Pakistan. He said “some fixing” had taken place in probably one or two matches four or five years ago and Pakistan Cricket Board should have held an inquiry and banned those involved, he said in a BBC programme telecast on Thursday. He did not specify which matches were fixed.

WorldTel in fray

NEW DELHI: Private TV production company WorldTel today said it would bid for coverage of the upcoming India-New Zealand series on Doordarshan following dilution of pre-bid conditions notified by Prasar Bharati. As per the changes a company would now be qualified to bid if it had either the distribution rights of minimum of two Cricket Boards or had represented two other sport federations.

BATHINDA: Sunil Kumar of India won the boys singles title (U-18) in the first Asian School tennis championship which concluded in Jakarta onSeptember 28. He beat Yang Tau of China in straight sets in the final. The Indian boys and girls had bagged bronze in the team championship.

Meanwhile, India will host the Asian school hockey championship 2000 (U-18) in September next year at NIS, Patiala.

World kabaddi

KATHMANDU: The first World Cup kabaddi championship will be held in Bangalore and Devangere in Karnataka during the first week of April 2000.Apart from ten Asian nations, Spain had confirmed participation, it was revealed. The Asian Kabaddi Championship will be held at Colombo in the second week of April 2000.

Railways ousted

JAIPUR: Petroleum Sports Control Board (PSCB) bagged the Central Zone men and women team titles, defeating arch rivals Railways on Friday evening. It meant that Railways will not feature in the National championships for the first time.

PUNE: Pune’s Rohit Choudary claimed the men’s singles title of the State Ranking table tennis tournament at Symbiosis Spa with a 21-18, 20-22, 21-19, 24-22 win over Mumbai’s Gandip Bhiwandikar.

Divangi wins

PUNE: Top seed Divangi Patankar of Pune scored a quick 15-moves win over Mumbai’s Nikhita P to lift the girls under-7 title with an unbeaten record on the seventh and final round of 10th State Mini Chess Championship organised by Bhuddhibal Krida Trust at Manohar Mangal Karyalaya on Thursday.

CHANDIGARH: Border Security Force and Air India moved into the semi-finals of the 29th All India Gurmit Memorial hockey tournament. Scoring one goal in each half, Air India overcame Central Reserve Police Force 2-0 and Border Security Forcepumped in two goals to eliminate Sikh Regiment Centre by 3-1.
