NEW DELHI, November 25: The Indira Gandhi Stadium Coaching Centre, Delhi won the overall championship of the sixth A K Mishra memorial boxing championship at Chandigarh, pipping the hosts to the second position, according to reports reaching here.

With both teams finishing with 24 points each and with two gold medals each as well, it boiled down to the silver medal tally. The Delhi side had three silver to Chandigarh’s two and, thus, earned the right to the title.

Anand, in the light-fly weight category and Parmod Singh, in the Bantam weight category, won gold medals for Chandigarh, while IGS Delhi picked up gold medals through Manoj Panwar, in the feather weight category and Rajendra Singh, in the super-heavy weight category.

Panwar was all powerful with a flurry of punches and he combined theleft and right with equal measure. He also used his upper cup to a great effeft. The Chandigarh lad, Parmod Singh was declared the best boxer while Karnataka’s M Murthy, who lost in the final of the super-heavy weight category, had the consolation of getting the best loser award.
