
PUNE, May 13: Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd IFFCO, one of the world8217;s largest producers of chemical fertilisers has registered the highest-ever production of 28.87 lakh tonnes of urea and 12.73 lakh tonnes of NPK/DAP totalling a quantity 41.6 lakh tonnes of material during the year 1997-98 compared to the previous best of 28.8 lakh tonnes of fertilisers during the last year.
As part of its corporate plan Vision 2000,8217; IFFCO has commissioned expansion projects at Aonla, Kalol and Phulphur for increasing the existing capacity of urea production in the country. After the expansion, the production capacity of urea has almost doubled from 16.2 lakh tonnes to 32.2 lakh tonnes.
The overall capacity utlilisation of all its plants is more than 120 per cent compared to 108 pc last year. During 1997-98, the Kandla plant has produced 12.73 lakh tonnes of NPK/DAP, an all time record for the company.
IFFCO has recorded the highest ever sale of 27.50 lakh tonnes of urea and 12.50 lakh tonnes of NPK/DAP totalling 40 lakh tonnes during 1997-98 as compared to the previous best of 21.40 lakh tonnes of urea and 10.22 lakh tonnes of NPK/DAP totalling 31.62 lakh tonnes during 1996-97.
According to V Kumar, marketing director of the company, the unaudited profit before tax of the society during 1997-98 is an all time high at Rs. 470 crore with a turnover of Rs. 3,329 crore as compared to the profit of Rs. 201 crore and turnover of Rs. 2,143 crore during the year 1996-97. In Maharashtra, IFFCO has sold 1.04 lakh MT registering an increase of 70 per cent.
