CHANDIGARH, May 22: ICC XI will clash with Sohal XI in the final of the first N R Joshi Memorial cricket tournament on virtue of their emphatic 48 run win over Pace XI in the second semifinal here today at the Gursagar ground.
Set a target of 215 to win the match and a ticket to final, Pace XI wilted under pressure and were allout for 166.
Earlier, the ICC XI8217;s total was built around a hurricane knock of 58 by opening batsman Rajinder Kumar. Rajinder faced 52 balls and hit ten fours, interspersed with deft placements for singles and twos. He also had a quick 72 run first wicket partnership with Rishpal. This partnership, probably, helped their side overcome a rather subdued later half of the innings when their batsmen were upto brilliant spells by the father-son duo of former Indian Test player Yograj Singh and his son Yuvraj Singh. Doubly motivated, the two pegged back the scoring rate besides sharing three crucial wickets between them. Aman Kumar and Dharamveer came up with dogged efforts of 29 and 26 respectively.
Pace XI had a poor start. Opener Anoop batted well but lacked support from the other end. He scored a fine 52 off 53 balls. Later Yograj and Harikrishan came up with a gritty fifth wicket partnership of 45.
Scores: ICC XI: 214 Rajinder Kumar 58, Aman Kumar 29, Dharamveer 26, Roshan Lal 3-43, Yograj Singh 2-33, Harman Harry 2-41 beat Pace XI: 166 Anoop 52, Harikrishan 31, Yograj Singh 25, Aman Kumar 4-21, Jatinder Kumar 2-10.
