Humpy defeated Nisha Mohota of LIC in the 15th round game today at the Chess India Complex and gained a clear 1.5 points lead over her nearest rival and former champion S Vijayalakshmi of Indian Airlines. Viji also scored a win against Swati Ghate of LIC. Dronavalli Harika is at the third place with 10 points.
With white pieces, Nisha Mohota played a defensive game against Humpy from the very beginning. But the Vijayawada prodigy got advantage as early as the 13th move as Nisha went for bishop exchange. Humpy began Kingside attack after gaining control over 8216;g8217; file in the 19th move. She gained complete control in the 26th move and was a pawn up after nine more moves, which forced Nisha to resign in the 46th move.
