Mumbai, July 16: Naigaum Police Headquarters held Hotel Centaur 1-1 in the MDFA Harwood football league at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today.

The cops began on a fast and promising note. In the tenth minute a shot by Rajesh Tondwalkar was neatly saved by Centaur goalkeeper Fritzgerald D’Souza.

Good displays by Centaur defenders Assumption Rocha, Joaquim Lobo and Subhash Kanade kept the Police forwards at bay was most part of the game but they had a narrow escape in the 24th minute. ‘Keeper Fritzgerald was beaten but Tony Pereira brought off a goalline save following an attempt by Ramnarayan of the Police.

A minute later, Centaur’s Vishal More had goalkeeper Murthy at his mercy, but his shot hit the upright and rebounded into play. However, Centaur forged ahead when Kingsly Rebello found the mark following a free-kick taken by Selwyn Carvalho.

Most of the second-half play was confined to midfield with the rival defences dominating. The cops, however, succeeded in scoring the equaliser in the 56th minute. A good move between Kapil Chavan and Uday Gade, saw the latter beat goalkeeper Fritzgerald with a neat placement.

Earlier, Fatima Beach Boys B held Sea Liners 1-1 in the Division III-A game. E Singh gave Sea Liners the lead and Clifford Mendonca restored parity for Fatima Beach Boys.
