Hospitals blame KMC for unclean premises

8220;The corporation asked us to clean up stagnant water, which we have done and we have also been spreading bleaching powder within the premises, but the KMC authorities are yet to take any action. We sent them a letter nearly a week ago asking them to start spraying, but we are yet to receive any response from the department,8221; Ghosh said.

At the SSKM Hospital, the situation is not very different. While the bleaching powder is evidently spread all over the hospital, there has been little effort to clean up the accumulated garbage.

Hospital staff allege that the roads are barely swept once a day and most of the members living on the premises make an effort to clean up their own area. They allege that an employee was diagnosed with dengue and was sent to ID Hospital for treatment.

Ashok Ghosh, deputy superintendent, however, said that insufficient staff made it difficult to clean up the premises and the KMC should take more effort to do so. 8220;It is the duty of the civic body to clean up, as we do not have enough people for the purpose. How can the hospital staff be expected to clean up the premises?8221; he asked.
