April 26: Holy Cross B Kurla beat Our Lady of Egypt Kalina 2-0 in the final of the Bro Eulalio Vaz Memorial football tournament, organised by the past pupils of St Joseph8217;s Technical Kurla on their homeground, today.
The game started off well with Our Lady of Egypt dominating the proceedings but their forwards could not beat the strong defence of the Kurla boys. The score was 0-0 at half-time.
The Kurla boys dominated the game with good combination and scored in the 16th minute of the second half when Johnny Dias centred the ball to Ramesh Thakur who beat the Kalina goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Once again, in the 24th minute, a pass from Johnny Dias to his brother Stephen who brought the ball from the right flank and unleashed a powerful shot from the top of the box, which beat Kalina goalkeeper Fabian Jacinto hands down.
UBMC triumph
UBMC Kalina defeated Hearts 3-2 via the tie-breaker in a first-round tie of the late Joseph Koli Memorial rink football tournament at the Ganeshmaidan, Sewri, today.
Murli 2 and Chetan Kapoor scored for the winners. Vivek Obhrai and Walter Pinto netted for Hearts.
St Anthony8217;s Dadar beat Fatima Khar 4-0. Dennis Menezes 3 and Clive Rodrigues scored for the winners. In another tie, Shahi Shipping bt Young Bros 3-0. Satawan Sawant, Ajit Kokate and Deepak Monde scored.
