The Patna High Court today ordered the filing of an FIR against the RJD MP from Madhepura, Pappu Yadav, for organising a party at Beur jail after he was released on bail last month.

The court also ordered the immediate transfer of the Jail Superintendent for allowing Yadav to illegally enter the jail and organise the party.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Nagendra Rai had taken suo motu cognizance after Pappu’s jail party was reported by media. On the court’s order, the department had filed a report on the incident.

Yadav is the prime-accused in the murder of former CPI(M) MLA from Purnea, Ajit Sarkar. His jail party turned out to be a premature one, as the bail granted by the Patna High Court was cancelled within days by the Supreme Court.

Yadav had contested and won the Madhepura by-election from inside the jail by a whopping margin of over two lakh votes last month. Yadav today said the FIR is ‘‘unfortunate’’ for him. ‘‘I may have broken some law, though unintentionally, by entering the jail.’’.

Meanwhile, of the 41 prosecution witnesses in the murder case, 16 have turned hostile. Today, Kunda Singh was the third witness in two days to have turned hostile. Singh retracted his original statements to the CBI and declared that he had only heard the names of the accused and could not recognise their faces.
