The Calcutta High Court today ordered the arrest of Adhir Chowdhury, Congress MP from Behrampore, and 13 others. All 14 had been acquitted by a Murshidabad court on May 21 in the case of the murder of Hanif Sheikh and his son Laltu, which took place in Behrampore on July 2005.

A Division Bench of Justice Amit Talukdar and Justice Arun Kumar Bhattacharya passed the order following the state government8217;s petition challenging the order of Bhim Chandra Maity, Additional Sessions Judge, Murshidabad.

The court also directed the police to produce the accused before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Murshidabad. The bench, however, said the MP could file a bail application before the CJM. Public Prosecutor said the counsel representing the state in SC had been asked to file a caveat, as Chowdhury could move a petition challenging the HC order.
