
CHANDIGARH, May 22: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice of motion returnable for July 1, to M. M. Puri, vice-chancellor of Panjab University and the University Registrar, while taking up a petition of D. C. Saxena, a professor in PU English Department.
The petitioner, appearing in person, had sought direct payment of salary and increment arrears and sanction of casual leave for the period applied by for him, during the time he was in Tihar jail from July 19, 1996 to October 11, 1996.
The petitioner had also sought directions on a special audit of the University funds by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, alleging financial irregularities in the University.
He has also sought directions for payment to costs of petitioner besides exemplary costs of Rs 50,000 to be paid from the pocket of Puri.
Hearing the petition, a division bench of the Court comprising Justice V. K. Bali and Justice M. L. Singhal issued a notice of motion and sought the reply of the respondents by the next date of hearing.
