Harshdeep, Gaurav upset seeds

NEW DELHI, November 8: Harshdeep Singh Kohli and Gaurav E. created mild upsets in the men’s singles pre-quarter-finals of the 19th Bal Bharati Open table tennis tournament at Talkatora Stadium here today, beating No. 7 Jagat Singh Bisht 11-21, 23-21, 21-18 and Sandeep Sharma (Seed 5) 21-19, 12-21, 21-16, respectively.

Ayush Jiwaraika and Shantanu Agarwal entered the quarter-finals in sub-junior boys singles. Jiwarajika defeated Ankool Bajaj 21-13, 21-14 while Agarwal downed Abhimanyu Arora 21-13, 21-7 in the pre-quarter-finals.

In another sub-junior boys match, Sameer Sahwney of Manav Sthali beat Sunal Jain 18-21, 21-12, 21-14.

In cadet boys pre-quarterfinals, Abhimanyu Arora defeated Varun Jindal 21-19, 19-21, 22-20 while top seed Aditya Puri beat Karan Gupta 21-11, 21-15.
