
NEW DELHI, January 1: Gyan Bharati School and Bal Bhavan in the girls section started their campaign in the CBSE National Volleyball championship on a positive note, winning their games against NST Mathew school (Vijayawada) and Christ Church School (Jabalpur) at the Bal Bharti School courts here today.
In other matches in the boys section, DAV (Visakhapatnam) downed Shah Satnamji School (Sirsa) 15-5, 15-8, St John’s International School lost to DAV (Chandigarh) 7-15, 1-15 and Guru Gobin Singh School (Bokaro) beat Vidya Mandir (Cudappa).
Similarly, in girls events DAV (Visakhapatnam) beat Vidya Niketan 15-11, 5-15, 15-10 in a see-saw battle, and Kirpal Sagar Academy downed Sica Senior Secondary School 16-14, 15-9 in a thriller.
The Delhi school girls took the first game after a little struggle at 15-8 but seemed to be fighting with their back to the wall in the second as the Vijayawada girls staged a remarkable recovery. With their forwards doing good spiking, the defence of Gyan Bharati fell and allowed the former take control of the situation.
Gyan Bharati were able to pick just six points before Mathew’s School girls ran them over to level the game. However, in the third, the Vijaywada girls after a good fight lost out on steam and allowed their rivals take the game and match at 15-7.
But for Bal Bhavan spikers it was so easy against the Jabalpur outfit as the other Delhi team won 15-6, 15-5.
