Appearing on Two Much, the talk show hosted by Kajol and Twinkle Khanna on Amazon Prime Video, Govinda claimed that he keeps forgiving his wife Sunita Ahuja like she’s a child for her comments about their troubled marriage in public. Now, the actor again may have some more forgiving to do, given Sunita has dropped many more such confessions in a new interview.
“I’ve done a lot for Govinda. After our marriage, I was sitting mum about it for a year, until Tina (Ahuja, daughter) was born. Then (our marriage) it was declared. It was such a big sacrifice that I didn’t step out of home for a year,” revealed Sunita, adding, “There was a trend that the hero’s fan following gets reduced once he gets married. That’s why I got pregnant quickly. So that if not today, they’ll have to let me out later.” Sunita was talking about how the couple get their marriage a secret for a year so it will not impact the actor’s stardom. The marriage was only announced when their daughter was about to be born.
Sunita Ahuja doesn’t regret that because she wanted to support Govinda when he was on the rise as a film star back in 1987, the year they tied the knot. “I always support him whenever he needs me,” said Sunita. In the interview with Pinkvilla, she attributed Govinda’s stardom to his late mother because of her long struggle. “I’d give the credit to not me, but to Govinda’s mother first,” she said.
It was largely due to the way his mother, Nirmala Devi, raised him that Govinda was able to rise from a suburban locality like Virar and become a major breakout star. It was after his mother died in 1996 that Sunita began supporting him even more. “I supported him in both his good times and his bad times,” said Sunita, adding, “If he’s doing something wrong, there should be someone who can call him out. A woman becomes a wife, but also becomes a mother to her husband after a point. We were very young when we got married. I was 18, he’s seven years older than me. We didn’t know anything. I don’t know how I raised my daughter because I was a child myself then.”
Sunita Ahuja confessed that more than a husband, she always saw Govinda as a friend. “I’d scream at him and curse him,” she said, adding, “There should be friendship in a marriage, but it should be rooted in the truth. We should be truthful to each other. That’s how such relations last long,” said Sunita. She added that she doesn’t blame Govinda for concealing some truths from her either.
“He must have thought it through. I have diabetes, so he must’ve thought why worry her. He’d have thought I’m like a child, so would just keep laughing and joking around,” said Sunita, laughing. But she also called out Govinda for his remarks on her on Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle. “I have to ask him, what have I done that you need to forgive me? You’ve committed so many mistakes, but I’ve kept forgiving you. I always say it’s okay to commit mistakes in one’s youth. I’ve also committed many. Govinda has definitely committed many. But once you grow older and have kids, you should keep a check on yourself. You should fulfill your responsibilities before committing any more mistakes,” said Sunita.
She then hinted at Govinda’s alleged affairs and said, “Why mistakes even then? You have a nice family. You have such a beautiful wife and kids. Then, why?” Sunita argued that her thinking is different from Govinda’s because she’s very attached to their kids. “See, he’s a hero. What can I even say? Heroes spend more time with heroines than us. He’d go for a shoot for 40 days, and I stayed back home. But then you have to be a very strong woman to be a hero’s wife. Your heart should be made of stone. This is what I’ve realized after 38 years of marriage. There was so much love in the youth that I didn’t consider anything else,” added Sunita, laughing.

In the same vein, she said, “I’m like this only. I’ll sacrifice my life for love. But if there’s no love, I can take someone’s life too.” She then repeated what she said on Kapil Sharma’s show that Govinda is such a good son that she wants him as her son in the next life, but definitely doesn’t want him as a husband again.
Sunita also weighed in on the debate on social media triggered by another episode of Two Much, where Twinkle, Kajol, and filmmaker Karan Johar chose ’emotional cheating’ over ‘physical cheating.’ “When you cheat on someone after emotionally loving someone, that’s not right. I’m a very emotional person. I love Govinda to my death. Whoever betrays me, whether it’s my husband or kids, I get very affected,” confessed Sunita.

She also added that it’s not right to indulge in physical cheating either. “Why do you have to choose between the two? Our parents have raised us so well. This is ghor kalyug. When I got married out of love, my mother told me I should stay there till my death. Till today, I’ve never packed my bags and left home despite all the fights with Govinda.”
