VADODARA, July 13: The Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (GSFC) has constructed a channel to prevent hazardous wastes from gushing into nearby localities from the factory site. According to a GSFC spokesman, the 15-feet deep and 20-feet wide channel was completed late on Saturday evening. The channel was set up after a dividing wall gave in on July 6 — following heavy rains – resulting in hazardous wastes flowing into Bajwa village.

The GSFC swung into action following an Indian Express report on the same, published on Friday last. According to the spokesman, all the waste which had found its way into the village had been cleared. Work on the dividing wall is expected to be completed today.

The GSFC spokesman further said the company distributed 60 food packets, each containing 50 kg wheat, 20 kg rice and 5 kg dal, on Saturday. This was in addition to the 50 packets distributed on Friday. The company has also deployed a team to provide medical assistance to residents of the affectedvillages, he said. The company has also decided to donate Rs 10,000 to the Yuvak Mandal of the Colony to carry out their educational and social work.
