Defending champion Roger Federer, who has not lost a set or his own serve all tournament, moved into the Wimbledon quarterfinals today with a straight-set victory over the tallest player in the game.

In a match featuring only one break of serve, Federer beat 6-foot-10 Ivo Karlovic of Croatia, 6-3, 7-6 3, 7-6 5, to extend his grasscourt winning streak to 21 matches. He8217;ll next face Lleyton Hewitt, who defeated Carlos Moya 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 3.

Sebastian Grosjean was the first player to make the men8217;s quarterfinals, beating Robby Ginepri 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.

Lindsay Davenport reached the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vera Zvonareva. Also advancing were Maria Sharapova and Karolina Sprem.

Sharapova, considered perhaps the most talented of a crop of young Russian women, advanced to her second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal by beating 31-year-old American Amy Frazier 6-4, 7-5.

Shrapova next plays Japan8217;s Ai Sugiyama, who beat Thailand8217;s Tamarine Tanasugarn, 6-3, 7-5 to become the first Asian quarterfinalist at Wimbledon since Indonesia8217;s Yayuk Basuki in 1997.

Two rain-delayed women8217;s third-round matches were completed early today, with Tatiana Golovin finishing off a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over Emmanuelle Gagliardi to set up a meeting against two-time defending champion Serena Williams.

Italy8217;s Silvia Farina Elia defeated Virginia Ruano Pascual 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
