MUMBAI, NOV 12: The government has set March 31, 2000, as the deadline for implementation of the Electronic Data Interchange EDI project to connect international trade regulating agencies. EDI allows documents to exchanged electronically and greatly reduces time required for approvals and clearances. Electronic paperless documents also result in lower costs in the long run.
Implementation is being reviewed and monitored in agencies like the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Airports Authority of India, ports and scheduled banks, commerce secretary P P Prabhu said on Friday.
