Acting on a complaint against a Punjab Civil Medical Services PCMS doctor, who is alleged to have been involved in private practice, the Health department conducted a raid at a clinic in Mansura and caught him red-handed.

The Health department team that included Dr Rina Sandhu, district family welfare officer and Dr Puneet Sidhu visited the said clinic today where Dr Mandeep Kaur was said to be practising privately.

Giving details about the raid, Civil Surgeon Dr SP Sharma said, 8220;We had received a complaint against Dr Mandeep Kaur, who had been posted to Raikot recently but had taken leave after joining there. The doctor was practising privately and therefore we had sent a team to check this and found the doctor indulging in private practice.8221; He added that the case would be forwarded to the higher authorities.

He further stated that the doctor was earlier posted at the dispensary at Mansura and had recently been transferred to Raikot. 8220;Instead of resuming her duties, the doctor started practising at a private nursing home in Mansura.8221;

Earlier too, the doctor has been charged with causing blindness to four patients while she was working at a dispensary in Mansura village. Complainant Mandeep Singh, a resident of Mansura village, had alleged that the doctor rendered four patients, including his father, blind after they were operated upon for cataract by her. He alleged that in that case too he had told the enquiry team of senior officials of the department that she had opened her private OPD in the government dispensary and used to charge heavily.8221;

However, when asked, Dr Mandeep Kaur said, 8220;A doctor whose business is suffering from my popularity here has been giving me a bad name. As for private practice, I want to know how many PCMS doctors in Ludhiana are not involved in it.8221;
