VADODARA, Jan 4: After a fortnight several housing societies in Gotri got potable water from Sunday.

Albeit the residents have not been told officially by the VMC that now there is no contamination. A large number of persons had taken ill after they received contaminated water due to reported mixing of sewage with potable water.

The roads were dug and three-odd connections where there was a possibility of contamination severed. The trial and error method took more than a week8217;s time.

Pragnya Solanki, a resident of Roshni Park, told Express Newsline that although they received potable water from Sunday they would not use this before getting the sample tested in laboratory.

Ramji Padaria of Jaldhara Society said the VMC had collected water samples two days ago but did not report the outcome of the test. 8220;We will call up the VMC and ask to submit the report that contamination is no more there,8221; stated Nayanbhai Shah, another resident.

Ward No. 6 executive engineer F Charpot said they would inform the residents officially on Tuesday that there was no contamination. Asked where exactly the fault was detected, he said the VMC had checked several places and carried out necessary work. He said near one society there was a possibility of mixing of drainage and water pipeline and in another case water from a sump in a closed house is likely to have seeped into the drainage line along with other particles. Charport claimed that they had cleaned manholes in nearby places and also cleared the drainage choke up.
