
The Lucknow Development Authority LDA has invited Expression of Interest EOI from various organisations for setting up a public library in Gomti Nagar. It will be the first ever library constructed by the LDA in any of its housing schemes.
In the EOI, the organisation will have to provide details like library profile, operations, technology and management system. A double-storey building that was constructed two years ago in 746-square metre area in Vipul Khand-3 will house the library. The building was earlier meant for a badminton court and cost the LDA Rs 46 lakh.
8220;Along with books and journals on various subjects, the library will be equipped with audio visual facilities, a cyber cafeacute; and a reading hall,8221; said LDA Vice-Chairman Mukesh Kumar Meshram.
He said that a very nominal rent will be charged from the organisation that will run the library.
An official associated with the housing scheme said: 8220;Along with a wide collection of books, the library will have a reception, a record room, a waiting lounge on the ground floor and a meeting hall on the first floor.8221; He added, 8220;Besides, a parking space of 100 square metre and open space of 140 square metre will also be provided for the convenience of visitors.8221;
Justifying the decision to set up a library that was earlier meant for setting up a badminton court, Meshram said: 8220;The LDA was not making any profit from it. Once the library is opened, the LDA will fund it. The agency will continue to maintain the building in future.8221;
Dinesh Mishra, Vice-President of Gomti Nagar Jan Kalyan Samiti expressed pleasure over the LDA decision to open a public library in Gomti Nagar.
8220;At present, retired people and students have to depend on public libraries in Hazratganj and Kaiserbagh. But this library will be a great help for residents of Gomti Nagar and nearby localities,8221; said Mishra.
