Enid Blyton ventures into Asia

LONDON: THE Enid Blyton company, which has built a substantial children’s literature the world over, today announced formation of a new joint venture company, Enid Blyton (Asia) Limited in a bid to increase its already significant presence in markets like India, Singapore, Japan, S Korea, the Phillipines, China, Australia and New Zealand. David Lane, managing director of Enid Blyton Company said, “The joint venture company would enable us to build a close, long lasting and mutually beneficial partnerships with Asian companies.”

Iraqi woman courts trouble

BAGHDAD: A 36-year-old Iraqi woman is being taken to court for having had eight husbands at once, the Iraqi weekly Nabd Al-Shabad reported. The woman had eight civil weddings by presenting the notary with falsified identification papers which showed her as divorced, the paper said on monday without naming the woman. According to the paper, the woman’s secret was discovered by her eighth husband who upon hisrelease from prison had doubts about the paternity of the child he was supposed to have fathered.

SAO PAULO: A previously unknown tribe of Indians believed to never have had contact with modern society has been spotted in the Amazon jungle, officials with the National Indian foundation (Funai) said. A team of researchers from Funai spotted the tribe last week while flying over a jungle near the border with Peru, a Funai spokesman said on Monday. The team spotted about a dozen buildings measuring some 15 meters in the Brazilian jungle. AFunai spokesman said, the foundation estimates about 200 members in the tribe.
