Gaza land imbroglio

GAZA CITY: Palestinian police have arrested at least a dozen Palestinians who have sold land to Israelis amid growing US protests against the policy, the attorney general Khaled Al-Qidra said today. 8220;Aside from six land sellers arrested around Hebron last week, six or seven others were arrested more than two weeks ago,8221; Qidra said.e other arrests took place.

The United States has stepped up its criticism of the Palestinian authority8217;s campaign, against Palestinians who sell land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem to Jewish settlers.

Algiers blast

ALGIERS: A powerful car bomb exploded on Thursday in a town south of the capital, in the heart of a region wracked by bombings and massacres. At least 12 people were killed and 50 wounded in the latest attack, officials said.

The bombing near the town hall of boufarik was the latest incident in a new spate of violence ahead of next month8217;s parliamentary elections.

Bosnia trial

MUNICH: A Bosnian Serb was convicted on Friday of acting as an accessory to genocide and murder of Muslims in his homeland and sentenced to five years in prison.

Novislav Djajic, 34, who was a member of a Bosnian Serb military unit, was tried in Munich where he had been living since 1993. The three-month proceeding was Germany8217;s first war crimes trial under international auspices since the Nuremberg trials of top Nazis in 1945.

China tops

BEIJING: China8217;s cosmopolitan Shanghai will erect a 460-metre building, eight metres taller than the world8217;s tallest building in Malaysia.The construction of the 94-storeyed Shanghai world financial centre will start this September and be completed by 2001, according to a senior employee of the Japan-based Mori building company .The project will cost 960 million.
