BUENOS AIRES: Argentina8217;s football team Racing Club hopes to shake off its troubles and rediscover former glory by exorcising its stadium, reports have said.
The team8217;s newly elected president, Daniel Lalin, plans to hold a Catholic mass in club8217;s 60,000-seater stadium, the Pagina 12 newspaper said.
quot;We will exorcise the stadium and then hold a candle-light march to drive out all the bad spirits,quot; Lalin told the paper yesterday.
Racing Club, a leading team in the 1950s, has debts of 42 million dollars and five head trainers on its payroll. Fans have been waiting 31 years for Racing to win a championship.
Bevan recalled
MELBOURNE: Michael Bevan was today named in the Australian 12 for this week8217;s second cricket Test against South Africa in Sydney.
Bevan, a lower order batsman and left-arm spinner, replaced fast bowler Andy Bichel, who was 12th man in the drawn first Melbourne Test, which finished today.
Expectations of Sydney Cricket Groundpitch taking spin influenced selectors to bring Bevan into the side. The second Test begins on Friday.

ADELAIDE: Australian power server Mark Philippoussis has withdrawn from next week8217;s Australian men8217;s hardcourt tennis tournament here with a shoulder injury, organisers said today.
The injuries had been troubling Philippoussis for several weeks and organisers said it was decided he needed a rest before preparing for the Australian Open, starting in Melbourne on Jan 19.
Bridge cheats
BEIJING: The Chinese bridge association has banned three players for using a cellular phone and a pager to cheat during the 1997 national tournament in September, the official Xinhua news agency said today.
It banned Jiang Tong, Shi Zhengjun and Zhang Wenli 8212; all members of Beijing8217;s Zhongjian Bridge Club 8212; from competition for five, three and three years, respectively.
