Egypt squash players hurt

AMMAN: A bus taking Egyptian squash players to a tourist resort overturned on Friday, killing the driver and injuring four players and an official, security officials said.

The players — the women’s team and two men players — were traveling to the city of Madaba on their day off between matches in Arab Games in Amman, said the officials.

The most seriously injured is Nasreen Nasha who underwent surgery in a hospital near Madaba to fix a broken thigh bone, Egyptian diplomats said.

Swimmer dies

LONDON: A Mexican swimmer Fausta Mareno (41) died on Friday while trying to swim across the English Channel.

India’s Bula Chowdhury is awaiting the weather to clear before taking the plunge for a non-stop two-way Channel swim.

The 29-year-old Bula who had crossed the Channel in 1989, was scheduled to take the plunge on Thursday or Friday but was forced to put it off because of bad weather.
