SYDNEY: One of Australia8217;s Invincibles8217; from the 1948 cricket tour of England has sold his baggy green cap to help a cancer charity. Sam Loxton, one of 11 survivors from Sir Don Bradman8217;s team that completed an unbeaten tour of England, sold his cap today at an auction to a phone bidder for 32,200 US20,300.

8220;I8217;ll be 78 next week and I thought it8217;s time to get rid of it before somebody in the family starts a fight over it,8221; Loxton said.

Lamb chop

LONDON: England cricket chiefs made it clear there was no way back for outgoing team coach David Lloyd. ECB chief executive Tim Lamb said, 8220;We are starting to look for Lloyd8217;s replacement as of now.8221;

Lloyd on Tuesday decided to stand down after the World Cup. Lloyd8217;s decision to step down has fuelled speculation former England batsman Bob Woolmer will be approached.

POTCHEFSTROOM: Australian women8217;s hockey team, trained by former Olympian Dr Ric Charlesworth, beat South Africa 4-1 inthe third of the five test-series. The series was locked at 1-1 coming into this match following Australia8217;s 3-0 victory in the first test and South Africa8217;s upset 2-1 win in the second.
