
Footballer pleads guilty to taking bribe
HONG KONG: Top Hong Kong footballer Chan Tsz-Kong today pleaded guilty to taking a bribe in order to deliberately lose a World Cup qualifying round match against Thailand, government-run radio said.
Sentencing was deferred for three weeks, the radio said.
Chan, a striker, admitted conspiring with Hong Kong goalkeeper Lok Kar-Win and others to take a HK 200,000 US 25,806 bribe from a bookmaker in return for ensuring Hong Kong lost a World Cup qualifying round match on March 9 last year. Hong Kong lost the match two-nil.

NEW ORLEANS: American athletics will pay tribute to retiring heptathlon world record-holder Jackie Joyner-Kersee with a new Grand Prix meeting near St Louis on July 25, officials announced yesterday.
The meeting, at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, will be called 8220;The US Open: Track and Field8217;s farewell to JJK,8221; USA Track amp; Field chief executive officer Craig Masback said in New Orleans on the eveof the US National Championships.
