The new owner of Manchester United plans to triple operating profit under a five-year plan which would see ticket prices rise sharply, the Times reported on Friday.

US investor Malcolm Glazer, who gained control of the English club last month after a two-year fight, hopes to boost annual profits to 114.3 million pounds ($208 million) by 2010, the paper said.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United fans say they could be “leaving in droves” following reports that new American owner Malcolm Glazer plans to raise ticket prices by 54 per cent over the next five seasons.

The Times based its report on “previously unseen documents” outlining glazer’s plans for the club. The 2010 prices would still be just below the current cost for a ticket at Chelsea, the most expensive in the league.
