GJM begins stir for Tamang146;s exit

The Darjeeling hills are on the boil again as the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha GJM has started its agitation against All India Gorkha League AIGL leader Madan Tamang. Over 10,000 student supporters of the GJM on Saturday gheraoed Tamang8217;s house for hours and demanded he should quit state politics.

Darjeeling Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastava said: 8220;Students gheraoed Tamang8217;s house in Darjeeling. Later, they held a rally at the Chowk Bazar. We have made extensive security arrangements at Tamang8217;s residence and AIGL party office. The situation is tense but under control.8221; According to the police, over 50 personnel, including senior officers, were posted near Tamang8217;s house to prevent any untoward incident.

Tamang had alleged that GJM chief Bimal Gurung had 8216;sold out8217; the non-cooperation movement launched by the Morcha. Subsequently, the GJM had set November 7 as the deadline for Tamang to prove his allegations.
