More so when it presents the spirit of martial arts 8211; the striving for self-perfection based on man8217;s natural weapons and internal energy: Anand Lonkar presents his paintings reflecting martial art.

Gitanjali Rai will sing a wide range of ghazals, including the cine-based and from across the border.

Pitpiteachi Kartupa, a Konkani drama adapted from the French is also on the cards. From Ireland comes the Trio of Noirin Ni Riain singer, Niall Keegan flute and Sandra Joyce bodhran/ vocal, with a concert of traditional music.

On the basis of interviews and excerpts from films, the film gives us insights into the conditions of work, an undersatnding of history, the aims and objectives of the director and his personality.

National Film Archive of India: Lakhachi Gosht Marathi/ 1952/ Bamp;W/ 133 min. Directed by Raja Paranjpe, the cast includes Chitra, Rekha, Raja Gosavi, Indira Chitnis, Sahrad Talwalkar, G D Madgulkar, Raja Paranjpe and Madan Mohan.

A poet loves a kindly radio singer while his painter friend loves the daughter of a millionaire. The rich man agrees to his daughter8217;s marriage provided the painter can demonstrate his ability to live in luxury by spending a lakh of rupees within a month. This comedy depends largely on Madgulkar8217;s incisive script and a cast which includes several well-known comedians such a Gosavi and Talwalkar. Raja Gosavi, a former bank clerk made his debut with this film and went on to become a major Marathi stage and screen comedian, associated with his deadpan acting style. At 6.30 p.m. on Saturday.

Pitpiteachi Kartupa: Adapted from Moliere8217;s Les Fourbewries de Scapin and presented in Konkani. Alliance Francaise de Goa chose Les Fourbewries de Scapin for adaptation in Konkani. In order to have the translation closest to the original, it was important to translate directly from French. The production is put up in collaboration with Kala Academy Goa, with actors from their repertory group, Rangmell. The play is directed by Dnyanesh Moghe, Konkani adaptation by Manoharrai Sardessai, the cast includes Pradeep Naik, Rajendra Mahajan, Dynaneswhwar Parsekar, Shubahngi Barve, Tara Parab, Raghuvir Govekar, Govind Shirodkar, Jawahar Barve, Vishwas Chari, Kashinath Mayekar, Anjali D8217;Souza, Sapana Sinari, Raghuvir Govekar and Govind Shirodkar.

Jairaj is a Goan land owner. His son Shravan is in love with Gomati, daughter of the money lender Govardhan. His son Ashvin is in love with Gulabi, a gypsy girl and marries her. In fact, Gulabi is Jairaj8217;s lost daughter. Both the fathers are not in favour of their sons8217; lovers. The lovers ask for Pitpito8217;s help. Rusva Sod Sakhe: Written and directed by Rajan Mohadikar, the cast includes Suhasini Deshpande, Seema Chandekar, Aruna Bhat, Manjusha and Naren Dongre. At Bharat Natya Mandir, 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Ghazal Gitanjali: Ghazals down the ages. Famous ghazals from Hindi cinema and popular ghazals from across the border. The ghazals will be presented by Gitanjali Rai. At Tilak Smarak Mandir, 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.

One-man show: Anand Lonkar will depict figures performing martial art on canvas. Paintings displayed in black, white and gray will be on exhibit at the Khusboo Art Gallery, Sterling Centre, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. till August 10.

Cassette and CD release: Flash Music Pvt. Ltd. has organised the release of cassettes and compact disks of a collection of Marathi songs entitled Swarashabdanchya Sandhyakali. The songs in this collection have been written by many poets including N D Matanor, Mangesh Padgaonkar, Sudhir Moghe and have been set to music by Kedar Paranjape and Pravin Joshi. The cassettes and CDs will be released by poet Vasant Bapat and music director, Anand Modak. The function will be held at Bharat Natya Mandir at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
