NEW DELHI, July 21: Rajiv Ghai of Shriram College of Commerce and Ekta Bhambri of Lady Shri Ram claimed the men8217;s and women8217;s singles titles espectively in the inaugural Suzuki Open Table Tennis Tournament which concludd at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium here today.

Both finals failed to rise above mediocrity although Ekta was stretched to four games by Reshmy R Nair of SRCC. Reshmy was expected to put up a tough fight to the top seedd Ekta, especilly after her good performance against India8217;s veteran international Nandini Kulkarni in the semifinal yesterday. She was completely off-colour in the final and hardly looked like making a match of it.

It was only in the third game that she gave some anxious moments to Ekta which she narrowly won. But Ekta came back strongly in the fourth game to win the match inside 40 minutes.

The men8217;s final was another dull affair, played in front of almost an empty hall. The left-handed Ghai proved too strong for Jamia Millia8217;s Jagat Singh Bisht, winning in less than 40 minutes.

Prizs were given away by Mool Chand Chowhan, secretary, Table Tennis Federation of India.

Results: Men8217;s singles: Rajiv Ghai bt Jagat Singh Bisht 21-17, 21-15, 21-15. Women8217;s singles: Ekta Bhambri LSR bt Reshmy R Nair SRCC 21-15, 21-16, 17-21, 21-17.
