
CHANDIGARH, Aug 25: The Gymnastic Federation of India has selected 23 gymnasts, including 10 women, for the national coaching camp which will begin on September 1 at National Institute of Sports, Patiala. The probables were selected during the two-day trials which concluded on Monday. GFI general secretary P S Virk said here today that the final selection will be held on September 12 at Patiala.
The Indian gymnastic team will participate in the 34th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships begining at Tianjin, in China from October 9. Virk was confident that two to three Indian gymnasts would qualify for the 2000 Sydney Olympics as the Tianjin World meet will also serve as the qualifying meet for Olympics.
More than 45 gymnasts from all over the country particiapted in the trials.
