NEW DELHI, May 5: Garhwal Rifles retained the championship of the 11th All India Shaheed Durga Mal Dal Bahadur Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament in Dharmashala (Himachal Pradesh) defeating Hoshiarpur Police 5-2.

In a well-contested match up to the half time Garhwal Rifles scored three goals against two but in the next half the winners scored two more goals to retain the championship trophy.

The man of the match award in the finals was bagged by Pushkar Bhandari of Garhwal Rifles.

The highest scorer award of the tournament was bagged by Ravi Kumar of the Hosiarpur Police who scored seven goals in the tournament. International football player Vidiya Thakur of Punjab National Bank, Delhi, was adjudged the best football player of the tournament.

Brigadier S P Raman, Commander 33 Mountain Brigade, was the chief guest at the function presided by Capt Ram Singh Thakur, an associate of Netaji Subhash Chander Bose.
