A police constable inspecting the body of Sadanand Narayan Shetty, the owner of an electroplating unit, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday.

May 6: A businessman was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen this morning near Nana Shankar Sheth Chowk, Malad (west). The assassins shot Sadanand Shetty , owner of an electroplating unit, 11 times while he was driving down the busy Turel Pakhadi Road in a white Maruti van (MAM 5762) He was rushed to the Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission.

The killers’ blue Maruti car overtook his van at Liberty Garden and came to a halt blocking his way. Before he could react, two gunmen stepped out and opened fire at Shetty from .38 mm pistols killing him on the spot. According to the zonal additional commissioner, Dr Satyapal Singh, a third gunmen remained in the car.

Sources said that Shetty’s killing could be a fall out of the Chhota Rajan-Dawood Ibrahim enmity. Sadanand’s brother Sudhakar, who runs Vidya Beer Bar and Air to Air Beauty Parlour at Kandivli, was allegedly associated with Sharad Shetty, a close aide of Dawood.

The Shetty-Dawood nexus is believed to have offended Chhota Rajan and the latter bumped off Sadanand Shetty to warn Sharad Shetty and to strike at his (Rajan’s) former mentor and now arch enemy, Dawood.
