Jamia Millia University Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan has drawn flak from different quarters for offering legal aid to students arrested in connection with the Delhi serial blasts. The wheel has apparently turned a full circle for the liberal intellectual and noted historian who was under attack from the student community in the same university when he opposed the ban on Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses in the early 1990s. As for this case, Shastri Bhawan officials say Hasan took clearance of Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh before making the announcement.
