CHANDIGARH, Jan 4: Describing the affidavit filed by one V K Gupta, desk officer of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, as non-compliance of the direction of the Central Administrative Tribunal CAT, the Bench adjourned the hearing on the writ petition challenging the second extension given to the Punjab DGP, P.C. Dogra to January 8.

The CAT directed that the person concerned, who was present in the High Court before the case was remanded to CAT should positively file the affidavit on or before January 8 for final decision in the case. During the last hearing on December 16 last, the CAT had directed the Counsel of Union Ministry of Home Affairs to inform in writing in the form of an affidavit whether the notification regarding extension of service beyond 58 years of age not exceeding 60 years was in his knowledge or not when the matter arose in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.The three ADGPs Sarabjit Singh, M S Bhullar and G S Chahal had sought stay of the six-month extension given to Dogra by the Central Government at the end of the first similar extension given to him by the state government.
