
CHANDIGARH, Sept 24: The principal of Punjab Engineering College PEC here today suspended four students from the college and hostels and removed three others from the hostels with immediate effect on charges of ragging first year students, who were allegedly stripped in the Himalaya Hostel of the college.
Those suspended from the college and hostels include Amit Kaul, Civil Engineering-III year, Dinesh Rauniwal Civil Engineering-III year, Kulwant Singh Mett Engineering-II year and Deepak Kumar, Mechanical Engineering-I year.
Those removed from the hostels are Gaurav Sachdeva Civil Engineering-III year, Mangesh Kumar Meena Civil Engineering-III year and Brahma Nand Civil Engineering-III year.
According to a statement issued by the principal, the action was taken after a preliminary inquiry against the alleged involved students and will be reviewed after the inquiry report of Proctor.
The suspension was done on the basis of a complaint lodged by the father of Sandeep, who hails from Jammu. Sandeep8217;s father stated in the complaint that his son, a student of Civil Engineering first year, was physically and mentally tortured in the PEC campus on September 17. Later, he met the principal who ordered an inquiry to the Proctor. An inquiry committee which comprised of the warden of the first year hostel and two deputy proctors. and proctor in the September 24 meeting inquired into the episode.
As per the issued statement, the inquiry committee established that the ragging took place in Himalaya Hostel in Amit Kaul8217;s room in which the alleged culprits made the boys strip.
