NEW DELHI, August 11: The South District police say they have solved a `sensational’ case of dacoity in the Hari Nagar Ashram area with the arrest of four people — Harish Kumar, Jahabuddin, Mohammad Sabir and Suresh. A fifth person — Dinesh Gautam — had already been arrested in connection with the case.

On August 4, around 12.15 pm, six person armed with kattas and knives entered a Hari Nagar house, tied up three women and robbed cash and jewellery. One of the robbers then went to the top floor of the house and tried to rob the family of a Dr. R.S. Rathi. He threatened Rathi’s sister Raj Kumari, but she along with other family members managed to overpower the robber, later identified as Dinesh Gautam. His associates managed to escape.

He reportedly told them to commit the crime on any day except on Sunday and Monday when the male members of the family were at home.

It was only 24 hours after he was nabbed that Dinesh finally told the police the names of his associates, who in the meantime had fled to hideouts in Delhi, UP and Haryana.

Two of the accused — Sabir and Harish were nabbed on August 9 on the Kalindi Kunj road. Two country-made pistols and seven live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Following their interrogation, Jahabuddin and Suresh were also nabbed.

They also reportedly told the police that they had committed a robbery in Vivek Vihar on July 2 where they had looted Rs 63,000 and jewellery form the shop of Ramesh Bansal.
