PUNE, July 22: The Pune District Consumers8217; Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered BPL Ltd and Huns Cycle amp; Motor Co to replace a defective brand new BPL 20 inch colour TV set belonging to Ram Dev Saini, that was purchased under cash memo dated September 3, 1994 issued by Huns Cycle amp; Motor Co. They have been ordered to do so within one month or pay Rs. 17,000 to Saini with interest. They have also to pay Saini Rs. 3,000 by way of compensation.

According to the complaint, the TV set became unserviceable on March 12, 1995. Huns Cycle sent a mechanic to rectify the defect which developed repeatedly. The mechanic replaced the BPL part with that of Philips. The original setting, sharp contrast and video effects were no longer available making TV viewing unsatisfactory. Repeated correspondence with the manufacturer and supplier yielded no satisfactory results.

The court found deficiency in service and ordered the two opponents to make good the loss. The order was passed by president K D Kochargaonkar and members S S Pendse and S S Oak.
