
Former Bharatiya Janata party MLA Prem Prakash Tiwari was detained on Friday in connection with a criminal case registered against him with the Hazratganj police in January.
A Muzaffarnagar-based businessman, Subhash Kulshreshtha, had accused Tiwari of breach of trust Section 406 of the IPC and issuing threats to life Section 506.
A three-time MLA from Domariganj constituency in Siddharth Nagar, Tiwari was picked up from his Lucknow residence in the Narahi area.
According to the police, in September 2007, Tiwari had approached Kulshreshtha and told him he was interested in selling his petrol pump located in Domariganj.
8220;The case records state the deal was finalised at Rs 80 lakh. Kulshreshtha paid Rs 30 lakh as agreement money. After receiving the money, Tiwari started making excuses and did not finalise the deal. Finally, Kulshreshtha lodged an FIR in January,8221; said Inspector Hazratganj police station Ajeet Singh Chauhan. 8220;We had picked up Prem Prakash to cross-check the details of the FIR,8221; he added.
