The format for the senior Delhi Soccer Association DSA League has been changed to provide more opportunities to the players of the clubs that will be participating this year. Under the new format, the fourteen teams will get to play more matches than they were supposed to play.

The change in the format was necessitated after the Asian Football Confederation AFC insisted the DSA to revise the existing knock-out format from semi-finals. Confirming this NK Bhatia, secretary of the DSA, said that the AFC wanted the revision since eight teams from the bunch will make it to the Vision India tournament of the Asian body. The event is scheduled for some time in July.

Of the fourteen teams in the fray for the senior division, only ten teams five from each pool will survive to play the round-robin league. All those teams will get to play nine games each with the top two teams clashing for the title, said Bhatia.

Ground realities

The Vision India event will be played zone-wise with home-and-away matches. But DSA is in a predicament to fix the ground for the July event. With DSA not having a ground of its own, unlike most other state associations, it has been hard pressed to depend too much on the Ambedkar Stadium, which is owned by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

8220;We are looking for some alternative venues to conduct the zonal matches. We are trying to fix with both Vocational Studies Centre ground as well as St Stephen8217;s College ground. We may look around for a couple of more grounds to conduct the AFC event,8221; said Bhatia.

But for the moment, the association is looking to conduct the DSA Senior Division League, beginning December 26.

8220;All top teams are in the fray and most games should be of entertaining nature,8221; assured Bhatia.
