Footpath workers stage rally

CHANDIGARH, Aug 30: The members of Footpath Workers8217; Rozgar Bachao Samiti held a rally and later staged a dharna outside the office of the Municipal Corporation against the alleged excesses of the Enforcement Department.

The protesters comprising of barbers, cobblers, cycle mechanics, dhobis and other roadside vendors raised slogans against the police beat staff for their alleged excesses on them.

Lalit Parshad Verma, the general secretary of the samiti, said that the Enforcement Department of the MC was unjustified in imposing fines on the roadside vendors who are working at proper places, with their identity cards.

Ramesh Kumar Chandoliya, president of the samiti, alleged that despite the assurance given by the UT Advisory Council, the workers are continuously harassed by the department.
