CHANDIGARH, Feb 4: A large number of footpath vendors of the city today sat on a dharna at the Labour Chowk to protest the Administration8217;s indifference towards the proposed grant of licences to them for carrying out business legally.

The vendors, who had gathered under the banner of Footpath Workers Rozgar Bachao Samiti, raised slogans against the authorities and threatened stir in case the Administration failed to complete the survey of roadside sellers in all respects by February 15.

quot; The Samiti workers will carry out a protest march from the Labour Chowk to the Governor8217;s house on February 15 if the Administration and Municipal Corporation failed to act immediately for our cause, quot; said Samiti president Ramesh Kumar Chandoliya.

The general secretary of the samiti, Lalit Prasad, and members Ajit Singh and Sarwan Singh flayed the concerned authorities for delaying the survey on one pretext or the other for vested interests.

It may be mentioned that the Administration had completed the survey of all the footpath vendors of the city a few days ago, but the process of granting licences to the vendors has not been started yet.
